Have a Taste of Some of South Bay’s Great Cupcakes

Which cupcake shop in the South Bay is the best? SusieCakes, Cuppies, Pavilions, or Mayers Bakery?

The South Bay has many cupcake shops, but one question remains: which one is the best?

In a taste test, students were asked to give their opinion on their favorite flavor cupcakes.

The cupcake companies that were taste tested by PV students were SusieCakes found in Manhattan Beach, Cuppies found in Torrance, and our very own Pavilions and Mayers Bakery, both located in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Center. Going into this test, the cupcakes that were most commonly known to be “the best” were from Susiecakes.

Three flavors were tested: seasonal, chocolate, and vanilla. The seasonal cupcakes included candy corn cake with candy corn frosting and pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting.

The chocolate cupcakes came with chocolate frosting and the vanilla came with vanilla frosting.

Junior Justin Shaul along with freshmen Abby Post and Jamie Robertson were the taste testers for vanilla cupcakes.

SusieCakes received a 10 from Robertson and an 8 from Post. Shaul gave the Pavilions cupcakes an 8 out of 10.

Susiecakes won this round. They both agreed that the frosting on the cupcake was the perfect amount of sweetness, and the cupcake was not too dense.

“Those were some of the best cupcakes I think I have ever had. The frosting was the best and the cake part tasted better than most cakes. I would rate it an eight out of 10,” Post said immediately after trying the cupcake. SusieCakes won the best vanilla cupcake.

When testing chocolate, it was a close call between Pavilions cupcakes and Cuppies.

With the best frosting and cake Cuppies came in to win it. Senior Daniella Vincent and Junior Lexi Cantella gave their opinions.

Vincent gave Cuppies a ten for their chocolate cupcakes and Cantella gave it an eight.

If you crave chocolate cupcakes, go to Cuppies.

There were only three cupcake shops that had seasonal cupcakes that ranged from two pumpkin cheesecakes and one candy corn flavor.

Senior Sereene Saab and sophomore Parker Zane tasted the seasonal flavors. SusieCakes and Cuppies tied for the seasonal flavors.

Zane gave a vote for Cuppies and Saab voted for SusieCakes split down the middle.

The Cuppies cupcake was a candy corn vanilla cupcake with candy corn flavored frosting.

The SusieCakes was a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting.

“It has the perfect amount of spice and has good texture,” Saab said after tasting the Susiecakes cupcake.

The South Bay has some awesome cupcakes. Cuppies and Susiecakes should be your first choices if you feel like having a delicious cupcake.
