Cancellation of Netflix Shows Causes Unhappy Students

Out of nowhere, many PVHS students have found their favorite shows go missing from the Netflix catalog. It’s a frustrating situation, often with no clear answer.

Every month, Netflix users encounter the exact situation when a number of movies and TV shows are removed from their list to add more options. Each film has a license from its provider that expires after a certain amount of time. Sometimes, Netflix is able to renew the license, and other times, the provider no longer wants to be on the Netflix list.

However, students still seem to be frustrated with the removal of their favorite shows.

Freshman Charley Saalberg said, “[Removing shows] makes sense, but as a customer, it is unfair, and we should be told more in advance.”

The list of all films leaving Netflix s luckily very small. “Ghostbusters,” “13 Going on 30,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” will no longer be offered to watch at the end of September. Fortunately for customers, the list of movies being added is much longer. They include “Groundhog Day,” “Sisters,” “Spider Man 3,” “The Breakfast Club,” “Lilo and Stitch,” and “Black Panther.”

The addition of shows gives Netflix a bit more leniency. In order to take shows off without losing half their users, Netflix replaces those shows with options that will appeal to viewers and make them want to keep their account subscription.

Freshman Turner Helton was originally very angered while talking about the disappearance of shows. As a nightly watcher of “The Office,” he spends much of his time on Netflix and dislikes it when a show he is looking for is gone. Despite this fact, Helton said he “is very hyped about ‘Lilo and Stitch.’”

While customers will continue to encounter the removal of their favorite productions on Netflix, they must take into consideration Netflix’s expiration conflicts and the addition of new shows and movies.
