With the upcoming World Cup set to bring some of the biggest matches in the world to Los Angeles, excitement among students and soccer fans is at an all-time high. However, along with the anticipation comes a major concern: the rising price of tickets.
While many fans dream of experiencing the World Cup live, the cost is forcing people to think twice before committing.
For many students, the idea of watching a World Cup match in person feels unreal. Luca Caruso, a senior at PV High, shared that he was originally planning on attending a few games.
“I was really excited and thought I’d go to a couple matches,” Caruso said. At the time, he admitted he had not looked into ticket prices. After learning how expensive they are, his excitement turned into hesitation. “Now that I know how much tickets cost, I’m definitely thinking about it more,” he said.
Still, Caruso hasn’t completely ruled out going. As a passionate Argentina fan, he said, “If Argentina makes it to the quarter finals, I’d save up money to go watch the game.” For him, the importance of the moment might outweigh the cost.
Another student, Athan Dorado, shared a similar experience. Dorado said he was extremely excited about the World Cup coming to Los Angeles and hoped to attend multiple games.
“I really wanted to go to a few matches because it’s the World Cup and it’s right here,” Dorado said.
However, once he saw the ticket prices, his plans quickly changed. “Since the tickets are so expensive, I’ll probably only go to one big game,” Dorado said.
He also explained that high-profile matches cost even more, making the decision even harder.
“The bigger the game, the higher the price, so I have to be careful with what I choose,” Dorado said.
As the World Cup approaches, it’s clear that ticket prices this year are significantly higher than in past tournaments.
For students especially, the rising prices are turning what should be an easy decision into a financial challenge, making people think more than ever before about how and if they’ll experience the World Cup in person.
