Jonah Cohen: a junior at Palos Verdes High School has made leaps and bounds in his baseball journey, his most recent being his commitment to UCLA.
“I chose UCLA because I can play in front of my hometown and my family can come and watch me play. Coach Savage is very good at developing pitchers and can get me to the next level,” J. Cohen said.
J. Cohen has become an established member of the Sea King baseball program as well as becoming an important player for travel ball. His experience playing at both levels has shaped him into the player he is today.
“I have been able to play a lot of different competitions, and also in travel ball, playing with the best of the best. I have also been able to learn about myself and what play style works for me,” J. Cohen said.
Despite his commitment, Cohen is still driven to be the best that he can be. “If anything, committing means that after high school I have a new team I have to be ready to play for, so I need to stay working and get ready for the college level,” J. Cohen said.
For his dad, Eli Cohen, his baseball journey has been very exciting to watch.
“I was very proud of him, watching him put in the work since he was in Little League. It has been fun watching him grow and now be committed to a Division 1 school,” E. Cohen said.
E. Cohen said his son’s dedication to baseball and his passion for the game have always been key reasons for his success.
“I think his love for the game has helped him reach his level. He really loves every part of it, and that helps him want to play every day,” E. Cohen said. “It’s amazing to see all his hard work pay off on the field.”
From playing throughout Little League all the way to high school, his commitment to UCLA was another step in his baseball journey.
Cohen has impacted his teammates on and off the field. His varsity teammate, junior Owen Hamilton, said that Jonah’s love for baseball and work ethic has influenced the whole program.
“Jonah is a very kind and helpful person. He is always pushing others to do better and work harder. He is a huge impact for the program as he pushes everyone to their full potential,” Hamilton said.
As J. Cohen prepares for the upcoming season, knowing he is committed to play in college pushes him to keep improving. His UCLA commitment is a major milestone, but he is still focused on getting better everyday.
