Four Wheels Are Better Than Two

Fast, furious, flamboyant, more than 8 million motorcycles speed throughout the U.S. Today in our ever expanding roads, each one leading more Americans into highly congested freeways where fiery accidents are no urban myth. Many people percieve motorcycles as being perilous. However, there seems to be a common depiction that motorcyclists are cool. Motorcycles are different from bikes and far from cars. These vehicles are able to accelerate fast at any terrain, which makes them so dangerous. Motorcycles are special in that they allow the biker to experience the breeze at high speeds. Motorcycling is an art and a hobby to many, but should we risk our safety for something we love? Should we let our loved ones die by the hands of a vehicle?  According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety admission, about 73 out of 100,000 motorcyclists are involved in fatal crashes, while 13 passengers out of 100,000 registered cars die in car accidents. If there are more accidents on the freeway that are caused by motorcycles than there are with car accidents, why should anybody ride them? Skeptics may say that motorcycles are a cheaper form of transformation and others say it is due to the experience. However, safety should be our number one priority and it should never be ignored. Motorcycles do not provide s sturdy protection system like cars, allowing injuries to become more fatal. For example, if a car gets rear ended by another car, the impact may not be as harsh on passenger in a car than on a biker.  Because of their skinny appearance, motorcycles allows the rider to cross in between cars. This can be an advantage, but it is also a huge disadvantage. Motorcyclists are often hidden from the driver’s view and the driver can accidentally hit the biker. Another motorcycle accident scenario would be when the biker accelerates to fast and loses grasp on the bike. Since motorcycles have the ability to accelerate to a high speed in a short amount of time, the force from the wind as the motorcycle accelerates has the power to push the biker off the bike. Motorcycles are also impractical in that you can’t ride them in severe weather. Motorcycles were built for high speed, but they weren’t built to withstand slippery roads.
