Every few months, PVHS hosts Class Comp: a competition between grade levels to see who wins the most games and shows the most spirit.
At the 2025 Winter Class Comp, both students and staff were able to participate in these fun activities.
Before Class Comp, participants practice the games beforehand to ensure everyone knows the rules.
“The class presidents and vice presidents go out and find the participants. They have to sign a waiver saying that they know that it could be dangerous. Then we practice the games before anybody comes down, so everybody knows what they’re doing,” ASB director Jama Maxfield said.
Days prior to class comp, ASB puts up posters to let students know what color they should wear. Freshmen wear blue, Sophomores wear orange, Juniors wear green and Seniors wear yellow.
The grade with the most points at the end of the year gets an In-N-Out truck.
Before the class comp, the Seniors and Sophomores were neck and neck in points. Since the two classes were both so close in points, the games were highly anticipated.
During the games, Red Tide is responsible for judging the winners and distributing the points accordingly.
“We’re the judges of class comp, so we’re making sure everyone’s following the rules, and having a good time,” Red Tide captain Colby Ammond said.
The day of class comp, the first activity was “Minute to Win it” where student representatives from their grade go around the stands collecting money for the Adopt-a-Family fundraiser.
All four classes then competed in the Sprite chugging contest, where the Sophomores won. The wig snatching contest and the teacher relay races were up next.
After the intense games, the Seniors managed to pull ahead of the Sophomores. In between the games, the Choreo, Song, and Cheer teams took the stage and performed their routines.
The next event was the highly anticipated present stacking.
“My favorite activity was probably the present stacking. I thought it was really entertaining and fair for every grade level,” Freshman Drake Eaton said.
The present stacking game consists of several large boxes wrapped in Christmas wrapping. Participants would have to try to stack them as high as they could, but the presents would often reach several feet above their heads.
The Sophomores stacked the highest tower the fastest, winning this game and surpassing the Seniors.
The second-to-last game was a relay race where students raced other contestants on their knees to complete different Christmas-themed tasks without their hands.
The tasks included eating a cookie, drinking milk and putting on a Santa hat. The Seniors won the cookie eating and the milk drinking contest, while the Juniors won the hat wearing contest.
The last event of Class Comp was a Christmas-themed finish the lyric game, which the Seniors won, putting them in second place behind the Sophomores.
At the end of Class Comp, Seniors lead the yearlong competition with 35 points, followed by the junior and sophomore class with 25 points each, adn the freshman class with 20 points.
