The holiday season is back and Palos Verdes is filled with community spirit and joyful celebrations.
Local holiday events bring neighbors and communities together, making this time of year truly special.
One beloved tradition is the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Malaga Cove Plaza on December 7.
This event displays the lighting of a giant Christmas tree and marks the beginning of the festive season.
It features live music, hot chocolate and other fun activities for families and friends.
“It’s a great event because a lot of people show up and everyone is in a great mood because who doesn’t love a well decorated Christmas tree?” said Tony Trutanich, owner and operator of Beach City Christmas Lights.
Throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Palos Verdes Art Center often hosts holiday themed art exhibits and workshops.
Another exciting event is the Peninsula Holiday Parade of Lights on December 6.
The parade begins at Silver Spur Road and Drybank Drive and continues through the Promenade on the Peninsula.
It features the PVPUSD district’s school marching bands, holiday floats, Santa and more.
“It’s very cool because we also do it with the Pen High band and the bands from the three middle schools. It’s a great opportunity to connect with other high schools,” senior George Bojorquez said.
Candy Cane Lane in Torrance is one of the town’s favorite traditions.
This beautiful street transforms into a winter wonderland, and all of the homes are covered with colorful lights and fun decorations.
Many homes have inflatable Santas, reindeer and sell hot cocoa.
Residents of Candy Cane Lane take this time of year very seriously and their decorations reflect their dedication to holiday spirit.
Walking or driving through Candy Cane Lane is a joyful experience for many and a memorable activity to do with one’s family or friends.
“I’m most excited for Candy Cane [Lane] because I’m gonna drive there with my friends and see all of the pretty lights,” said sophomore Lauren Cho.
Palos Verdes is incredibly fun during the holiday season, its festive lights, joyful events and a warm community spirit.
From holiday parades to beautiful decorated neighborhoods like Candy Cane Lane, these festive events bring the community together to enjoy the season. It is truly a very special time of the year.
