Sea Kings Transfer to Rydell High

This year’s Homecoming week was a time for Sea Kings to bring on their school spirit and have a blast while doing it. With the theme of Grease, PVHS had an incredible time summer lovin’ all the way to the Homecoming game and dance. And although the week flew by quickly, none of it could have been done without the endless hours of work put in by ASB to make the festivities possible.

“We had work weekend the weekend before [homecoming] and we did five hours each day, so it took about ten hours to get all this done.” ASB President Hadley Richards said.

Though the preparation for Homecoming week may have been stressful or chaotic for ASB members, when the time came, it was clear to see that their effort had paid off immensely.

Monday morning, students walked into campus embellished with artistic posters of Grease characters, iconic quotes, layers of streamers, diner decorations, drive-in model, and much more.

That same day, PVHS was “cruisin’ for a snoozin’” and had students arrive at school straight from their beds and in their comfy pajamas. Whether students were wearing onesies and slippers or simply cozy sweatpants, they could not hide their Sea King pride.

Tuesday was themed as “stereotypical high school”, with students and teachers decked out in their vision of a typical high schooler’s outfit from the 1950’s and current fashion. Of course, for some students that meant showing up in just a normal day’s outfit. For others, the spirit was shown through crop tops, swim trunks, or white vans.  And especially spirited Sea Kings wore poodle skirts, neck scarves, and leather pants.

Later that afternoon, PVHS students were welcomed back at the school’s Senior Park to watch the movie that sparked inspiration for this whole week. They were provided with popcorn and a blow-up screen to sit and enjoy the movie night with friends.

“I had a lot of fun and it reminded me of [Grease] because it was kind of like a drive-in movie,” Freshman Farah Dia stated.

Being that this is almost every day for Palos Verdes locals, dressing in beach gear on Wednesday came fairly easy to students. Many boys had on swim trunks and flip-flops, and many girls were in jean shorts and sandals. To really get involved in the beach theme, others added a Hawaiian shirt to the mix.

To be a beauty school dropout, things have to be pretty crazy for someone. That’s why Thursday was filled with wacky clothes and wacky hair to represent the wacky theme.

Friday finally came after an eventful week of the 50’s, and in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness month of October, PVHS ended the week dressed in pink clothing for Pink Tide.

Pink Tide showed their support at the Homecoming game after school, when PV High came out on top.  The PVHS varsity football team dominated Centennial High School with a final score of 50 to 0.

ASB set up the halftime ceremony for announcing the kings, queens, princes, and princesses of PVHS. Riding up in old fashion cars, the Homecoming nominations were definitely not missed.

Later Friday night, PVHS students met back at the gym for the Grease-themed dance. The decorations at the dance were phenomenal, along with the free ice cream, cotton candy, and photo booth pictures. Despite the stink bomb and sweat filled gym, the Homecoming dance completed the week perfectly with Sea Kings dancing and singing alongside friends.
