Spruce Up Spring Break

MBRWhile all your friends are out having the time of their lives tanning on beaches of Cancun with Kardashians, you plan to spend your break at home in bed watching reruns of the Kardashians. For the few of us who have nothing to do and nowhere to be, spring break can sometimes kind of suck.

But have no fear, if your spring vacation is looking something like this, here are a few ways to help make this week suck a little less.

  1.   ROAD TRIP

Whether it’s for the whole week, or even just for a day, road trips are always fun. Take a few days off to drive with family and/or friends  somewhere completely unexpected. Go to the beach, the mountains, or the Grand Canyon. Taste test every taco truck from here to New Mexico (with caution) or go on an impromptu camping trip. Trips like this don’t take too much planning or money, and are definitely worth it.

  1.   COLLEGE VISITS

College may seem far away, but it’s never too early to start considering your options. Lucky for us, there are lots of great colleges right here in California. Spring break is a great time to visit some UC’s, or other stand out schools like Stanford University. College visits are a good way to get the feel for a campus’ atmosphere, student diversity, and size, especially when there are students present. And, it probably won’t take much convincing to get your parents on board.

  1.   SPRUCE UP YOUR RESUME

So maybe visiting all those colleges has gotten you inspired to do something more impressive to show off on your resume. There are plenty of things you can do during this time to show colleges you are serious. Take this time to volunteer at the library or do a local beach clean-up. Apply for an internship that has something to do with your future major, or current interests. Start studying for your SATs, ACTs, or APs. Sounds boring and nothing like partying with the Kardashians, but hey, you’ve got time. You will be glad you did in the long run.

  1.   SPRING CLEANING

If you aren’t planning on leaving your house any time soon this break it may be a good idea to clean up your room a bit. Clean out and reorganize your desk and closet, donate old toys and clothes, do some redecorating, maybe even add in a little feng shui for good karma. The possibilities are endless. Not only will this make your mom super happy, but it is also a great excuse to go shopping to make up for all the clothes you just gave away.

  1. TRY SOMETHING NEW

There are lots of things new things you can do without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. There is literally nothing the internet cannot teach you. Learn to cook something other than ramen or brownies from a box, try a new instrument,  learn to draw, or learn a new language. It may be a success or a complete failure, but at least it will keep you occupied with something other than Tumblr.

Who needs a lame vacation abroad when there are all these great opportunities right at home? If your Spring Break is looking bleak, try a few of these out and break will be over before you know it.
