“If you find somebody you can love, you can’t let that get away,” Sammy, in The Wedding Singer.
The Wedding Singer, a comedy, is a show being put on by our music department in the upcoming weeks.  It was written by Tim Herlihy and it is based off of the movie, The Wedding Singer, which starred Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.  The musical subsequently started on Broadway and has since become a play that schools and performance groups alike enjoy performing.
Robbie Hart and Julia Sullivan are both engaged to be married, but they may not be engaged to the right people.  Robbie, the “wedding singer,” is engaged to be married to Linda, but Linda ends up leaving him at the altar.  Later, she admits that she was having second thoughts, and she was concerned about living and raising kids in Robbie’s sister’s basement.
Robbie’s friends are able to successfully convince him to go back to work, but the first gig doesn’t go very well, and Robbie ends up singing a rendition of the song “Love Stinks” after insulting the bride’s father and interrupting the wedding toast.
Afterwards, Julia, a waitress at the weddings that Robbie performs at, makes Robbie promise that he will still sing at her wedding to Glenn, but considering his current situation, he was having doubts about whether or not he was willing to perform.
After Robbie’s friends convince him to go back to work a second time, his mood begins to perk up.  He becomes better friends with Julia, and Robbie helps Julia plan her wedding because Glenn doesn’t want to help with the details.  As the play progresses, Julia realizes that the relationship that she is in may not be the relationship that she should be in, causing the play to take a turn.
“It makes fun of 80’s pop culture and all of the crazy things that our parents did in high school,” says Andrew Miller, a member of the high school music department.  Miller will be playing the role of George.
In addition, Matt Fiedler will be starring as Robbie Hart, one of the leads, and Arianna Amberg will be starring as Julia, the second lead.  Gillian Bozajian will be playing Holly (a friend of Julia’s), Hailey Hershberger will play the part of Linda (Robbie’s fiancee), Nick Harrington will be Sammy (Robbie’s brother), Chris Chenoweth will be starring as Glenn (Julia’s fiancee), Monica Siouty will be playing the part of Angie (Julia’s mom), and Lynn Alessandra will be the grandmother.
“We’ve been working on the play for a long time, so I hope that the audience will enjoy it as much as we have,” said Miller.  The play will be performed from April 13-15 and April 19-22.  Tickets are 12 dollars for students and 15 dollars for adults. Premium “wedding seating” is also available for 25 dollars, giving guests the opportunity to sit at a wedding reception table and eat wedding cake.  So go out, get some friends together, and support the music department by watching The Wedding Singer!
