New Girl on the Block

New Girl on the Block

Although some Sea Kings were looking forward to new episodes from their favorite returning series, others were excited to start a new tradition every Tuesday night at nine. The hit show New Girl airs on FOX and has been an overall success with it’s original and quite peculiar characters.

This fun new series, staring Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day shows the adventures of a quirky girl who has recently moved in with three guy roommates after a harsh breakup. Most of you might know Deschanel from movies like 500 days of Summer or Yes Man where she plays roles similar to that of her real personality. Which is nerdy with an unresistingly adorable edge.
The executive producer, Liz Meriwether also produced the popular movie “No Strigns Attached” starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. She wanted to “feature a young cast to show a modern and outrageous look on boy/girl relationships”.

Nick, played by Jake Johnson who acts in the comedy show Allen Gregory,  is the most grounded of the three roommates and  spends most of his his time hidden under his sweatshirt hood or at a local bar. Schmidt, played by Max Greenfield, is the confident, girl crazy one that constantly needs to hear compliments. Last but not least, Winston, the former pro basketball player who is looking to get his life back is played by Lamorne Morris.

Cece, played by Hannah Simone, is Jess’ supportive and pushy best friend and makes frequent trips to the apartment where the boys drool over her good looks .

At the end of it all the five realize that they form a sort of dysfunctional yet charming family. They go to each other to cry, laugh or anything really because they are all they’ve got in this large open world.

“This show is different because it’s not afraid to take risks with it’s characters and even though Jess and the others may be dorky and unusual they add a nice change to daytime television” says junior Grace Haring
…”Simply Adorkable”, the show’s moto perfectly exemplifies the humorous yet cute spin on the sitcom .While Jess is a bit of what we’d call an awkward and quirky girl, she blends it with a charming and delightful personality, creating a truly lovable character.
Out of all the TV shows out there, New Girl definitely shows a new and different side to the classic girl guy roommate situation. With a “creative and relaxing” plot, New Girl is just the show to come home and kick off your shoes to.
