A Local Sweet Treat Returns to PV

After the closing of local favorite Yummy Yogurt caused an outcry from many fans in the Palos Verdes community, one customer took it upon himself to keep the beloved franchise continuing.

The beloved Yummy Yogurt shop previously owned by the Chen family closed earlier this summer on July 30 due to the building of retirement homes.

On the shop’s closing day, the line followed out the door with sad customers yearning to get inside to buy one last cup of delicious frozen yogurt.

The good news for those customers is that this October there will be a revival of Yummy Yogurt with the new name “It’s Yummy.” Moreover, it will be relocated within the same general vicinity, in between Good Stuff and Once Upon A Table Catering in the Promenade Peninsula Mall.

The future owner, Doug Wroan, has high prospects for the future of the new yogurt shop, his motivations rooted in a desire to continue the delicious tradition.

“I want to keep the community tradition going by providing a great spot for generations of kids, families, and friends to continue to make memories,” said by Wroan to the Daily Breeze.

Wroan has lived in the South Bay Area with his family since 1996. His wife and two sons, dedicated fans of Yummy Yogurt, were very influential in his decision to jump at the opportunity to open a new version of the praised retail business.

When one of Wroan’s friends heard about the closing of Yummy Yogurt, they decided to buy the memorable signs and equipment and invest in the business together.

Soon after, his friend decided against it, but Wroan continued with the idea because he thought “it was a shame for the community to lose this long time business and of course the yogurt.”

Wroan guarantees the yogurt will stay and taste the same with only minor tweaks to the formulas.

“I’m working with the same suppliers for the product, and I have all the old signage. Although, my designer, who has done an amazing job, wants me to do something different, so we’ll see. It will be the same, but we hope to make some improvements where we can,” Wroan said.

Yummy Yogurt has been known as a PV landmark for 34 years now. The shop had always been filled with joyful faces and wide smiles of families enjoying the best frozen yogurt in town.

The closing resulted in many sad fans missing their frozen yogurt cravings.

“My grandkids and I miss having Yummy Yogurt after school…seeing their happy faces makes me happy,” said Yvonne Kerdoon, a resident and customer of Yummy Yogurt.

Many customers agree that Yummy Yogurt had the best yogurt without any parallel within the community.

“We try to go to places like Yogurtland, but we all agree that it doesn’t taste the same,” said Kerdoon.

Fans are ecstatic to hear that it is confirmed that the long-standing yogurt destination will return to the neighborhood this October.

Freshman Olivia Hecker explained why she is a fan of Yummy Yogurt and why she was pleased to hear of the new opening of It’s Yummy.

“My favorite flavor was tart with mochi,” said Hecker.  “It was the best yogurt I have ever tasted… it’s even better than ice cream.”

Hecker, as well as many fans, described how Yummy Yogurt is special because of the warm welcomes and the fact that it was owned by a friendly family business from the start.

Since It’s Yummy will no longer be owned by the Chen family, customers such as Hecker, may have doubts that the new yogurt shop will not retain the same feel or love as that of the original Yummy Yogurt.

However, Wroan assures customers that it will stay and taste the same, even though the store may look or feel more updated.

Nevertheless, Hecker and more students are full of anticipation and excitement for the reopening and look forward to the return of the favorite hang out spot to enjoy with family and friends again.
