Flicks You Don’t Want to Miss

The start of a new season comes with colder weather, falling leaves, pumpkin patches, and also a whole new season of movie releases. This fall’s season not only includes everyone’s favorite multi-million franchises, but also some of the most Oscar-buzzed films of the year.

A Star is Born (October 5)

Before its release, this movie was already on the list being considered for an Academy Award. Starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, this is the third big remake of the film which previously came out in 1954 with Judy Garland and 1976 with Barbara Streisand. The story surrounds a musician that discovers a woman that has given up her dream of making it big as a singer and revives her love for music, all the while, he battles his own inner demons. With a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and successful box office opening of $42 million (Box Office Mojo), this film is bound to win it all when award season comes around

Bad Times at the El Royale (October 12)

Seven strangers. Seven secrets. A creepy hotel. A cult. As interesting as it may sound, this psychological thriller, starring Chris Hemsworth, is in trouble of being overshadowed by the big releases of the week before (A Star is Born and Sony’s Venom). According to Forbes, the film only made $7.2 million it’s opening weekend which is small in regards to its $30 million budget. As October progresses, this film could make a comeback after the hype of the other two major releases dies down.

Beautiful Boy (October 12)

Staring everyone’s favorite indie sad boy Timothée Chalamet and iconic paper company manager Steve Carell, this movie is surrounded by whispers of an Oscar nomination. Chalamet stars as a young man battling drug addiction, and Carell as his father. Both actors are already receiving praise for their performances from critics, which means the likeliness of an Oscar nomination is quite high. The film opened in only four theatres and made about $200,000 collectively, thus a wide release can only be expected due to its major success.

Bohemian Rhapsody (November 2)

Based on the journey of the British rock band Queen, this film follows the life of the lead singer, the famous Freddie Mercury. This film, starring Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”), is already receiving hype from people and critics alike. With Robert De Niro attached as a producer, it can only be concluded that this movie is going to blow up the box office.

Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald (November 16)

The second installment of the Fantastic Beasts trilogy further extends the wizarding universe that is known and loved by many. This next film takes everyone’s second favorite wizard Newt Scamander on a whole new adventure with young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and his quest to prevent his old friend Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) from creating a world run by purebloods.

Fans of the series are already seriously excited for this release and hope it’s just as magical as the first film. Also, Nagini is actually a women?

Creed 2 (November 21)

The original “Creed” (2015) was the first extension of the famed “Rocky” film series. Following Creed (Michael B. Jordan), boxing newcomer, the film surrounds his next big fights: his family past and his new life as a professional boxer. Fans of the cult series have high expectations for this next film. Hopefully, it lives up to the greatness of the original “Rocky.”

Whether you’re into large, interconnected franchise universes or dramatic, independent films, this fall season has something in store for everyone. And yes, that does include Chris Hemsworth.
